Welcome

Toronto City Hall

Thank you for taking the time to visit my website. I am running for Council because I believe we can make Ward 1 Number One!

We live in one of the most beautiful parts of Toronto, along the wooded ravines of the Humber River. Yet, there is garbage on the streets, TTC access is poor and we get nothing but bad press. I want to change this -- and make Ward 1 the envy of every homeowner in Toronto.

Pride and dignity do not flourish in garbage. The only realistic way to clean up our streets is to have more trash cans and have them emptied as often as needed. We need public campaigns to reduce littering and encourage recycling. Getting local groups involved in beautification is essential.

We have to make TTC routes more efficient, since many residents rely on it. We need better bus access so that taking the TTC becomes a feasible option for environmentally responsible commuters who drive at present.

The recent arrests in Jamestown show us that violent crime is close to home. We must also provide young people with alternatives to joining violent gangs and help kids stay in school longer so that they have more options. Young women and men at risk must be helped, counselled and guided through social programmes.

The trees of our ravines have to be protected from the Asian Long Horned beetle. An offensive must be launched immediately to introduce greater diversity into the trees, so that if one species is affected, there are plenty of non-affected species. At present, our forests are far too uniform for comfort.

I believe I am uniquely equipped to resolve these problems. I have reported on economic and public policy issues in cities as diverse as New Delhi, Singapore, Manila, London, Hong Kong and Toronto as a journalist for Reuters, CNBC and Bloomberg News. This international experience gives me a unique perspective, having seen the best and worst ways to run a city.

I will be an ambassador for Etobicoke North’s stunning natural beauty, thriving commerce and cultural wealth. We need a proud, articulate voice in Council, and we need a champion for funding towards long-neglected areas. Together, we can make Ward 1 Number One – in beauty, safety, and quality of life!
